Where are the best dive spots near you?
- Colorado doesn't have a lot of diving, so we usually drive to other states for training. However, Chatfield Reservoir, Aurora Reservoir, and Pueblo Reservoir are the most popular. There is also ice diving in Clear Creek reservoir, it is the best dive site for ice diving in the Rockies.
What would you see at the dive site?
- Reservoirs don't have a lot of life, mainly crawfish. Pueblo Reservoir has a sunken old west town, and Aurora Reservoir has a sunken plane.
When is the best time to dive?
- Summer. Morning to avoid storms.
Recommended gear for the dive?
- Quality regulators that can handle cold water. Proper Thermal protection is crucial too. A 7mm is a bare minimum. Dry suit will make you happier.
How do you get to the dive site?
- They are all shore dives with parking on site or close by.
What is the dive depth and visibility like?
- Visibility is on par with any reservoirs: murky. 5 to 15 feet. Depth varies greatly. Pueblo goes below 130ft, but the other reservoirs are usually shallow and you'll be diving at a maximum of 35 feet.
How many dives a day can be done?
- As many as your dive computer will let you! Dive computers are mandatory equipment for our divers.
Who takes the divers out?
- Divers can go on their own as long as they have buddies. We travel to certification sites and meet with students once to twice a month, year round. If you wish to do Ice Diving (pretty particular for our area) we recommending joining our classes in the winter. Even if you are already certified, having a professional team with proper equipment will make for a much more fun experience. Logging an ice dive in the Rockies is pretty unique.
