WETSUIT LAYERING GUIDE

Maximize your bottom time without adding bulk with SCUBAPRO's Layering system.

Wetsuit Layering

Unless you’re diving in water warmer than 98.6ºF, your body starts losing heat as soon as you hit the water. The primary job of a wetsuit is to reduce or delay your body’s heat loss to keep you comfortable and warm during your dive, but if you’re prone to getting cold, we recommend adding a few layers before moving up in wetsuit thickness.

The proper sequence of divewear allows you to create and maintain an optimal temperature tailored to your comfort preferences to maximize your bottom time and the benefits of your gear, allowing you to mix-and-match divewear as needed to keep you comfortable before, during, and in-between your dives – without the added bulk or cumbersome donning of multiple wetsuits.

Base Layer

Your base layer is going to be your first touchpoint for gear-to-skin contact, and are made with lightweight, quick dry materials to provide exposure protection and comfort both topside and underwater. Rash guards, leggings, swimwear, and skinsuits are frequently-used base layers for diving, and can be used as primary exposure protection for snorkeling and other recreational watersports.

Mid Layer

Mid-layer gear is designed to provide added warmth underwater without unnecessary bulk or restricted range of motion when paired with your base or outer layer gear. Mid layers, such as vests, 0.5-1mm wetsuits, and shorties, protect your body heat at your core, and can be extended to the rest of your body depending on your comfort needs.

""

Outer Layer

Traditionally seen as your primary divewear, outer layers are designed to keep you warm and protected underwater and range in thickness and exposure protection based on the conditions you're diving. Wetsuits, Drysuits, and Semi-Dry divewear can be worn individually or paired with layers for added warmth.
