Why did you decide to take the giant stride into the oceans?
Growing up in the Canary Islands, the ocean was more than a backdrop—it was a constant part of my life. I remember snorkeling for the first time off Lanzarote’s volcanic coast, being completely captivated by the colorful parrotfish darting through the seagrass. It felt like stepping into another world. That spark of curiosity has never left me. I wanted to understand the ecosystems that shaped my home and do my part to protect them.
How has diving changed your life?
Diving has completely reshaped how I view the ocean and myself. I still remember my first encounter with an angel shark—it was lying so still in the sand that I almost missed it. Observing such a rare and ancient species reminded me how fragile and unique these ecosystems are. Every dive connects me more deeply to the underwater world and reinforces my commitment to protecting it.
What kind of diving do you like to do?
I’m fascinated by dives where I can witness natural behaviors. Once, I spent over an hour watching a manta ray circle a cleaning station, patiently letting the tiny wrasses groom its massive body. It was mesmerizing! I also love scientific dives, especially monitoring Canarian ecosystems—whether it’s documenting the behavior of sepias in seagrass meadows or studying volcanic underwater landscapes. It’s both challenging and rewarding.
Tell us about one of the most amazing experiences you have had underwater.
One of the most magical moments I’ve had underwater was in the Red Sea. I was diving near a vibrant coral reef when a pod of dolphins appeared out of nowhere. They swam around us for several minutes, their curiosity and playfulness on full display. At one point, a young dolphin came so close that I could see its reflection in my mask. It felt like we were sharing a brief, unspoken understanding—a memory I’ll cherish forever.

Where are some of your favorite places underwater?
El Hierro, especially the waters around La Restinga, holds a special place in my heart. The volcanic seabeds there are unlike anything else, with dramatic landscapes and species like the Canarian damselfish and angel sharks. Another favorite is the coral gardens of Ras Mohammed in Egypt. The sheer diversity—from vibrant anemonefish to barracuda schools—makes it feel like diving into a living painting.
What is your advice to someone considering diving?
Take it one step at a time and don’t rush. Learning the basics thoroughly will make your dives much more enjoyable. And remember, diving is not just about the thrill—it’s about respecting the marine environment. Start with easy dives, and over time, you’ll be rewarded with encounters that will stay with you forever.
What would you tell people about the oceans?
The oceans are the heartbeat of our planet. They provide oxygen, regulate our climate, and sustain incredible biodiversity. Yet, they are under immense pressure from human activities. If there’s one message I’d share, it’s this: every small action counts. Whether it’s reducing plastic use or supporting marine conservation efforts, we can all play a role in protecting the oceans.

What does diving mean to you?
For me, diving is a way of connecting with the world in its purest form. It’s both an escape and a journey of discovery. Floating weightlessly, surrounded by the soft sound of bubbles and the occasional glimpse of a curious ray, reminds me of the beauty and complexity of nature. It’s a privilege to explore—and a responsibility to protect—these underwater realms.
What’s your favourite thing in your dive bag?
On my dives, I always bring my camera, as documenting what I observe underwater is a fundamental part of my work as a marine biologist and content creator. Additionally, I never go without warm clothing to protect myself from the cold after surfacing, especially after long dives.
