An Interview with Kurt Amsler

Why did you decide to take the giant stride into the oceans? 

Being a professional photographer already - I wanted to document a new world. 

How has diving changed your life?

It has become a full-time job over the past 50 years… 

What kind of diving do you like to do?

All types of dives, when there is something spectacular to photograph. 

Tell us about one of the most amazing experiences you have had underwater?

As the first photographer ever to document the birth of a sperm whale. 2014 in the Azores Islands. 

Where are some of your favorite places underwater?

Maldives, Caribbean Sea, Pacific Polynesia. Mediterranean Sea, Swiss lakes. 

What is your advice to someone considering diving?

Awareness for the underwater world! 

What would you tell people about the oceans?

The oceans are the most important areas on our planet. We must do everything in our power to protect them from overfishing, pollution and ongoing environmental problems.   

What does diving mean to you?

It is a never ending challenge…

What's your favorite thing in your dive bag?

Cameras.
