Dive Local Oban
Dealer Website: Puffin Dive centre
Oban, Scotland
Where are the best dive spots near you?
- Puffin Dive centre is situated on the West Coast of Scotland. Oban and it’s surrounding waters are most famous for the large number of wrecks and wildlife surrounding them. Oban is the perfect start location for a diving adventure holiday.
What would you see at the dive site(s)?
- Large pollock and wrasse are abundant in the sheltered waters of the artificial reefs created by the wrecks. The shorelines are full of crabs, starfish, lobsters, clams. Stop and look closely and you may see a variety of nudibranch in between the large kelp leaves. Perfect for small octopus – even the occasional sleeping seal on the beach where you access.
When is the best time to go?
- Don’t be silly! Diving is throughout the year – if one dive site is out due to tides or weather there are many more to discover. Some sites are very tide dependant. A local guide is always recommended when planning dive trips. Shore diving from Gallanach bay at the dive centre is safe and protected throughout the year.
Recommended gear for the dive?
-
Temperatures range from 6 degrees to 14 depending on the time of year – a drysuit and warm undersuit is the optimum diving tool.
Reel and SMB when boat diving.
Torch and dive knife when wreck diving.
