Open Heel Fins

Open heel fins are popular with divers who enjoy cooler water destinations, get cold easily, or who like to shore dive and walk in between dive sites. They have large rigid foot pockets and an open back to accommodate dive boots or socks and are secured with an adjustable heel strap or bungee.

Considerations When Purchasing Scuba Diving Open Heel Fins

There are a number of different open heel fin considerations to take into account before buying.

When purchasing open heel fins, bear in mind that you might wear thicker dive boots, which would take up more room in the foot pocket. Many divers find that open heel fins improve their propulsion and are more agile as a result.

Some of the newer models of open heel fins provide a high level of propulsion. There are also a number of different blade types available including split fins, paddle fins, and standard fins. The type of blade you choose is a personal preference but each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Get familiar with the different types of open heel fins and all of the differences between them and learn more about choosing the best scuba diving fin that fits with your diving needs.
