An Interview with Luca Coltri

Why did you decide to take the giant stride into the oceans?

In 1980 my Dad started to go underwater with his friends, I was a 9-year-old boy, my house was full of scuba diving equipment and on Sundays we went to the sea to dive, in the evening we watched together the adventures of Jacques-Yves Cousteau. The movie "The World of Silence" got me so excited that right then I decided that would be my life. I still remember the first regulator my Dad gave me, it was a military Mark V, burnished brass case, it was the most beautiful thing in all my equipment at that time.

How has diving changed your life?

Scuba diving has always been a part of my life since childhood; to follow my dream, I left a good family business when I grew up. Today I am happy with my choices.

What kind of diving do you like to do?

For work I have dived in all the seas of the world, however, the Mediterranean remains my first love.

Tell us about one of the most amazing experiences you have had underwater?

I have traveled so much, perhaps the most incredible was the trip to the Galapagos, I think a passionate diver once in a lifetime must visit those fantastic islands. Diving with iguanas, penguins, walls of sharks, orcas, sea lions and so much more was the most incredible experience of my diving life.

Where are some of your favorite places underwater?

I have so many favorite places and they are right under my house where I dive every day, I like to discover new areas and when I have time I set off to search.

What is your advice to someone considering diving?

Let yourself go, don't be afraid, experience it as a journey to another world, savor the sensations and make them your own, don't give up the further you go the more beautiful it becomes...

What would you tell people about the oceans?

The sea is a unique and extraordinary environment, unfortunately human actions are seriously damaging it, we must become aware of the issues and take action to protect it.

What does diving mean to you?

I love going in the water in general, I love feeling immersed, I love the silence and the feeling of connection I have with my surroundings, I would never get out of the water. To those who dive with me, I try to convey my passion.

What's your favorite thing in your dive bag?

I have 2:

The mask, I like to have a good mask that is soft, comfortable, and lets me see the equipment on my chest well. I love the green Frameless.

The regulator, remember my old mark V ? I have always been a lover of Scubapro regulators and the passion continues, over the years I have changed many but always Scubapro.
